Be aware of COVID-19 Related Scams
March 31, 2020
Fraudsters continue to prey on the unsuspecting with scams related to the coronavirus situation. In response to the COVID-19 business stimulus packages announced, fraudsters have deployed a variety of scams involving coronavirus stimulus checks. The targeted individuals were contacted through text messages, social media posts/messages or phone calls.
Another version of the scam targets seniors in a similar fashion through Facebook posts informing them of a special grant to help them pay their medical bills. The bogus link takes them to a fake website claiming to be a government agency called the “U.S. Emergency Grants Federation” where they are asked to provide their Social Security Number to verify their identity. In other versions, fraudsters are asking for a “processing fee” for seniors to receive a grant. Please be diligent with these fraudsters.
